INFLECTION

[UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON][FINAL THESIS] [2017]

Inflection is a pedestrian-oriented infrastructure project, conceptualized for Houston, a city dominated by highways. The continuous cycle of highway construction and demolition is causing enduring damage to the city's urban fabric, and Inflection aims to address one such impacted neighborhood.

The Texas Department of Transportation has outlined plans to demolish portions of the I-45 highway. One such demolition is slated to occur between Buffalo Bayou and Sam Houston Park, two of the city's most pedestrian-friendly spaces. Inflection serves as an infrastructural bridge connecting these two public areas while offering a variety of amenities to its users. These include recreational spaces, promenades, and a unique semi-outdoor amphitheater that houses public galleries and exhibitions.
