The House with Less Doors
An experiment in connected living
The House with Less Doors is the renovation of our own home. My husband and I are both architects, and buying our first house felt like giving a kid their favorite toy—but one they could imagine and shape exactly how they wanted. So that’s what we did!
Over the course of two years, we transformed the house little by little to reflect who we are. We’re playful, welcoming, and deeply value connection. We’re a family of 2.5, two humans and a cat.
Our goal was simple: no matter what floor each of us is on, we should feel connected.
That meant removing unnecessary barriers and opening up the layout—physically and spatially. We kept only the doors we truly needed, and replaced walls with wide openings that allow light, sound, and movement to flow freely. We imagined the house as a continuous volume, where each room speaks to the next in 3D.
For the times when one of us needs privacy or quiet, the attic became our personal retreat—our “me space.”
So this is what we built: a home shaped by transparency, connection, and choice. We call it The House with Less Doors.
