GREEN DISTRICT

[SBU][UNDERGRADUATE THESIS][2013]

"The Green District" project presents a blueprint for the reconstruction of 140 units in an aging residential district in Tehran, nestled at the foot of the city's northern mountains. The lack of a comprehensive design plan for the area has led to numerous challenges for residents. The area's structural integrity is questionable, particularly given its location on Tehran's largest fault line. Moreover, many of the residential blocks do not have access to natural daylight.

Parking is also a significant issue, as most blocks lack sufficient parking facilities. The district's narrow lanes, while giving it a certain charm, have unfortunately become a haven for illicit activities, leading to safety concerns among residents. These problems are the repercussions of hasty and shortsighted planning.

In this project, I propose various solutions to these problems. The introduction of broad walkways and leveraging the terrain's unique topography to conceal parking areas are among these proposals. Other suggestions include consolidating individual buildings into three main residential blocks to enhance security, and incorporating a courtyard in each block to create secure recreational spaces. These measures aim to mitigate the current challenges and foster a safer, more livable environment.
