THE MASK

[FIGMENT] [TEAM COMPETITION] [2014]

"The Mask" is conceived as a monument to honor the essence of nature. Trees, often considered the backbone of Mother Nature, have provided the earth stability for ages. Regrettably, these precious resources are now under the threat of human activities, with many forests predicted to disappear within the next century. To symbolize this destructive impact, we've chosen recycled paper as our primary construction material.

"The Mask" will be assembled from around 400 masks, joined together by clamps at their intersections for easy assembly and disassembly. These masks are modular, not only facilitating assembly but also offering a variety of plan formations. The modular mask design, paired with bamboo columns of varying heights, allows the pavilion to take on numerous fluid forms.

The pavilion will host a variety of activities, from offering a shady respite to hosting live music performances and showcasing digital light art projected onto its canopy at night. Towards the end of the exhibition, we plan to invite visitors to pick a mask, paint it as they wish, and subsequently purchase it. Proceeds from the mask sales will be donated to charity. The disassembled segments can also be conveniently packaged and reassembled in a new formation at a different location, further extending the pavilion's life
