LEGACY COMMUNITY CLINIC

LEGACY COMMUNITY SIGN.jpg

Legacy Healthcare Clinics, a comprehensive federally qualified Health Center, aims to identify gaps in health services and devise patient-focused programs to address these needs. Their core belief is that "Health care is a right, not a privilege."

The Houston branch of Perkins+Will was awarded the design of the Legacy Southwest clinic. As a part of the design team, my primary role was in exterior design during the pursuit phase, and later I contributed to planning during the schematic design phase. The following sections offer a glimpse into the two preliminary design ideas that played a key role in securing the project. The showcased plans are one of three design alternatives offered during the schematic design phase, representing a fusion of the two initial concepts.

The single-story clinic design promotes accessibility and community transparency. Its expansive floorplate is divided by two central courtyards, granting patients, families, and staff access to natural light and fresh air. These courtyards also section the building, enabling a part of it to remain open for extended hours.

The two-story clinic model fosters a private and intimate "medical home" atmosphere for the Legacy community. This two-story structure provides a tranquil space, away from the street noise, for Pediatric and OB/GYN services, while ensuring accessibility to the building and its social services on the ground floor.
