CLOUD PAVILION

[SBU][MATERIAL.STRUCTURE.FORM] [2013]

"Inspired by Shigeru Ban's 'The Bamboo Roof', 'The Cloud' emerges. Ban describes his Bamboo Roof as a free-form structure with limitless geometric potential. The concept oscillates between simplicity and complexity, created through a system of interlocking units, each comprising four boards and four connection points. Although roofs are typically perceived as solid, Bamboo Roof imparts a sense of lightness and transparency.
Replicating a 1:10 scale of this intricate fabrication confronted me with substantial challenges in harmonizing material, structure, and form. Properties like floating characteristic, structural strength, the creation of a column using four elements, each stabilizing at a unique angle, and a joint design permitting diverse axis orientations all played vital roles in shaping 'The Cloud'.

The project initially commenced during the 'Material, Structure, Form' course and progressively evolved into an installation worth beholding."
